The Nice Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of its musical director György G. Ráth, steps directly into this Beethoven 2020 year, during which the 250th anniversary of the composer’s birth is commemorated, with this Missa solemnis in D major (opus 23), a major piece of the sacred repertoire.
Beyond its spirituality, intensity, and vast proportions, this work, composed between 1818 and 1823, stands out as a top-tier symphonic creation in Beethoven’s overall body of work. The composer himself referred to this Missa solemnis as the most important score of his life.
The vocal parts will be performed by the Choir of the Nice Opera conducted by Giulio Magnanini and the Choir of the Toulon Opera conducted by Christophe Bernollin.
