Tuesday, February 18, at 9 PM, the second illuminated carnival parade will take place. It’s an opportunity to delve into a bit of history.
The first mention of the Carnival dates back to 1294. In 1830, the first procession was held in honor of the rulers of Piedmont-Sardinia, and in 1873 the first parade took place. Three years later, the first battle of the flowers occurred.
The Nice Carnival is known worldwide. This year, for the 136th edition, 13,000 people attended the first battle of the flowers and 17,500 came to see the carnival floats.
For the first time as well, Carnavalon, the child of the king and queen, is a girl.
