“Free the Nice Carnival”
Barricaded behind large black walls. Traditionally, the carnival is a popular event for having fun, dressing up, and celebrating.
Viva! criticizes this moment, which has become a celebration for those who pay. It is no longer shared, protected by social barriers. The Carnival is no longer a popular celebration; it is “partitioned, secured, bunkered, and elitist.”
The list also laments the organization, a city split in two, a tram line at a halt, closed streets. So many people barricaded in the same place is considered dangerous in case of emergencies (crowd movements or others).
Viva! proposes to free the Nice Carnival from these constraints.
- No more barriers, fences; a carnival accessible to all, with no costume condition.
- Offer with the residents of the concerned neighborhoods a route and a carnival area without splitting the city in two.
- Make the Nice Carnival free of charge.
- Turn the Nice Carnival back into a cultural event that includes the people of Nice, in the diversity of our city’s cultures.
