As every year, and for the past 110 years, Villefranche-sur-Mer organizes, during this Carnival period, a Flower Battle at Sea! This year, the theme of “Villefranche goes to the movies” was honored!

No less than 30,000 carnations, 600kg of mimosas, 900 bouquets, and 80 garlands of boxwood to decorate nearly twenty traditional boats! Thatโ€™s the challenge the municipality of Villefranche-sur-Mer set for itself during this Carnival period. For 110 years, the Flower Battle at Sea has been organized on the shores of this small coastal town. Every year, nearly 7,000 curious people gather there. Just yesterday, many enjoyed the flower toss that the organizers engage in. Yellow, red, blue, and even green! The colors are there, and so is the sun.

The “pointus” (a typical boat from the south of France) used for parading are passed down from generation to generation as a heritage of a unique culture. Even though they are no longer intended for their original purpose, fishing, they have become a true tool for transmitting the Mediterranean soul.

The flower battle at sea was therefore the perfect occasion to show to the Riviera residents and tourists these boats that are part of the heritage! The day ended in the best way, as the sun showed up until it set. Folk groups and musical performances concluded a colorful winter Monday!
