On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Café Zimmermann ensemble, a Vivaldi violin concerti Estro Armonico will take place this Thursday at 8 PM at the Sainte-Réparate Cathedral.
These concertos for one, two, and four violins brought Vivaldi international fame as a virtuoso violinist and composer and are today considered one of the most important publications of the first half of the 18th century, as it marks a turning point in musical composition.
Indeed, when Estro Armonico was published in 1711, Vivaldi’s notoriety was not widespread. At that time, he had only precarious contracts as a violin teacher at a girls’ orphanage in Venice and had published only two collections of sonatas with a declining Venetian publisher.
The Estro Armonico was one of the first series of Italian concertos to be published outside of Italy and met with enormous success throughout Europe, eventually becoming the model for concertos for 18th-century composers. An evening to (re)discover some of the most iconic masterpieces of the Baroque repertoire!
