It is in the industry and construction sectors that hiring is most dynamic.
Job creation remained strong in the first quarter. According to the latest figures from INSEE, 93,800 jobs were created between January and March. This is the highest number since the fourth quarter of 2017.
This number, up by 0.4%, marks an acceleration compared to the last quarter of 2018, when INSEE recorded 69,800 job creations (+0.3%).
Employment increased most significantly in the private sector (+92,800 after +67,900) while it remained almost stable in the public sector (+1,000 after +2,000).
Over one year, salaried employment shows an increase of 218,600 jobs (+0.9%), including 225,400 creations in the private sector and 6,800 destructions in the public sector.
This Wednesday morning, on a television channel, the Governor of the Bank of France, Franรงois Villeroy de Galhau, hailed this as “good news” and highlighted the dynamism of the French economy, which according to him created 740,000 jobs over the period 2016-2018.
