On the occasion of the sixth edition, the association “Les Harley du Coeur” invites you to a picnic in the Cimiez Gardens on Sunday, July 7th from 11 am.
Accompanied by the “Toques Brûlées,” the association’s volunteers will organize a picnic to celebrate the summer holidays. It’s very simple to take part in this family event.
To help hospitalized children and bring a bit of happiness and joy, “Les Harley du Coeur” invites you to exchange a toy for a free meal.
What to give, and to whom?
“We don’t accept McDonald’s toys,” jokes Angélique, vice-president of the association. “We’ve never had a problem with the toys we’ve collected. We ask for a minimum value of ten or fifteen euros.” The gifts must be new as children are already weakened by illness and treatments, and no risks should be taken.
The younger ones aren’t the only ones suffering from boredom. Teenagers also fall victim to illness, and you can donate clothes, perfume, makeup, board games, or even Fnac gift cards to help pass the time.
Nice, at the heart of care
Equipped with a proton therapy center, Nice is renowned worldwide for its healthcare. Many families travel and are accommodated in the center’s guesthouse. To bring a smile to children who have to leave everything to come for treatment, sometimes for long periods, doctors offer a toy during consultations.
“The children come more willingly, with a smile, because they know they’re going to get something.”
To receive their treatments and move from room to room, two small electric cars are available for young patients. “Luckily there are only two; we might have problems otherwise,” jokes a doctor at the center.
A typically Niçois meal
In exchange for a toy, the chefs from “Toques Brûlées” will prepare delicious platters in front of the participants. Pan Bagnat, pissaladières, pastries, chickpeas, it’s the Niçois culinary art that’s being celebrated. Last year, the platter was so successful that the organizers decided to do it again. Besides the guarantee of good eating, concerts will be offered throughout the day as well as workshops for children.
“Les Harley du Coeur” organize nearly forty-five events a year. The sixty-eight volunteers work hard to satisfy as many people as possible.
In homes for disabled people, for example, the association organizes boat and motorcycle days.
