After the attack on July 14, 2016, the City of Nice undertook the collection and storage of personal belongings found on the Promenade des Anglais. For almost 3 years now, the city has been ensuring their preservation in an appropriate and secure location.
At the families’ request, the City of Nice contacted state authorities to obtain the return of these items, which carry such a strong emotional charge. Following multiple exchanges, the City finally received authorization from the Public Prosecutor of Paris and the Interministerial Delegate for Victim Support to return these belongings to their rightful owners.
The restitution process has begun and will be conducted in close collaboration with victims’ associations. The restitution procedures will be carried out in the presence of a psychologist to provide support if necessary.
