Following the announcement of his candidacy for the mayoralty of Menton, the elected official, who sat in the opposition ranks, submitted his resignation and left the municipal assembly after about thirty years of service.
He did so with a long speech during which he wanted to recall the long path he has traveled within the Republican right before running in 2014 at the head of a civic right list and being successively elected to the Regional Council under the FN label, before leaving this party to join the CPI.
Olivier Bettati, a well-known figure in Nice, has also been a departmental councilor.
His relations with Christian Estrosi have alternated between collaboration and opposition, with the latter being rather “vigorous” in recent years.
