Nearly 5,000 new positive coronavirus tests have been recorded in the past twenty-four hours, according to figures published by Santรฉ Publique France (SpF) on Tuesday, September 1st.
This is more than the 3,082 new cases identified the previous day (Mondayโs figures usually show a decline due to the weekend, notably because of the closure of laboratories), but stable compared to Saturday and Sunday (5,400, compared to more than 7,000 on Friday).
The positivity rate of the tests (the proportion of people testing positive compared to the total number of people tested) continues its steady increase: 4.3% over the last seven days, compared to 4.2% on Monday, 4.1% on Sunday, and 3.6% last Wednesday.
The pandemic has infected more than four million people in Europe since it was discovered in China in December, according to a tally conducted by the Agence France-Presse (AFP) from official sources on Tuesday, September 1st, in the late afternoon.
