Beauvau on security: Christian Estrosi calls for support for the police.

The Beauvau of Security, which started two weeks ago, aims to launch a major consultation until May involving all stakeholders concerned with the security continuum. After requesting the Minister of the Interior to include representatives of municipal police forces, who were not present at the presentation meeting of the roadmap, Christian Estrosi, the mayor of Nice, launched a major online consultation so that citizens too could contribute.

The mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, consistently supports this “Beauvau of Security” initiated by the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin. The only thing he reproaches is the fact that “the municipal police don’t have their rightful place”.

Put online about ten days ago, this platform, called “jesoutiensmapolice.nice.fr” aims to enrich the debate, particularly on the police/citizen relationship. More than 500 contributions, testimonies of support for our police officers, sharing of ideas on operations, and improvement proposals have already been collected. Among the various suggestions made by contributors: expanding the competencies of the Municipal Police, increasing staff, deploying video surveillance…

In an interview, the president of the Nice Côte-d’Azur metropolis explains the reasons for his anger, which led to the launch of this Internet platform: “I first demand the creation of a national school for municipal police in order to improve the training of agents. Today, it is entirely or almost entirely ensured by local authorities.

I also call for an equivalence for national police and gendarmes seconded to municipal police forces. Thus, my municipal police director, formerly a commander in the national police, had to undergo a six-month training before being able to lead the municipal police of Nice. An aberration! The bridging should be automatic.

Moreover, do you find it normal that a municipal police officer carrying a weapon or intervening against a terrorist is in category C of the territorial public service, with a meager income? Their risk and overtime bonuses are not even included in their retirement points. It is time to provide a status to these agents, to make the job attractive to the youth.”

The City of Nice and Christian Estrosi therefore invite residents, within the framework of the Beauvau of Security, to show their support for the police and to share their ideas on the functioning, missions, or the police/population relationship.

Armed with these numerous contributions, Christian Estrosi will submit a report to the government by the end of March.
