OGC Nice: Galtier announces several cases of Covid before Brest

Latest News

While the number of COVID cases detected in France has never been higher, the world of football is directly affected by significant outbreaks. The resumption of Ligue 1 scheduled for this weekend is already marked by numerous teams decimated by the pandemic.

For their first match of 2022, Nice will be playing at the Francis Le Blรฉ stadium in Brest this Sunday at 1 PM.
It is a very important match to maintain the impressive second place in Ligue 1 achieved before Christmas and to continue a positive momentum.

However, to secure a win in Brittany, Christophe Galtier will have to cope with a reduced squad. Indeed, during a press conference this morning, the coach who led Lille to championship victory last year explained that several Nice players tested positive, though he didn’t name them:
โ€œWe have done extensive testing since January 3rd, we have cases but I will not disclose the identity of the players concerned. We conducted more tests this morning and we are waiting to know the results this evening to see who will be able to play on Sunday in Brest.โ€

The Aiglons’ coach did not complain despite the situation.
โ€œAll Ligue 1 clubs are facing this… there are already matches being postponed.โ€

For now, the 56-year-old coach is not yet considering a possible postponement of the match, even though โ€œa lot can happen between now and Sunday.โ€
