Sexual assaults near a campus in Nice: a suspect forcibly hospitalized

Latest News

Following the sexual assaults near the law faculty in Nice, a suspect was identified and arrested on Wednesday. Another suspect was released.

Last week, a series of sexual assaults occurred near the Trotabas campus (law faculty) and the Crous Les Collinettes residence. An investigation had since been opened.

The Prosecutor of the Republic, Xavier Bonhomme, identifies two series of incidents, the first involving two young girls who were victims of sexual touching. The incidents occurred on January 11 and 14.

DNA evidence allowed for the identification of the suspect, who was arrested this Wednesday. However, the custody had to be lifted after a psychiatric evaluation. The man was involuntarily committed to a hospital.

The second series of incidents involves two complaints regarding an attempted robbery with violence and a rape involving the theft of a phone. These two assaults occurred on January 12.

A suspect had been taken into custody regarding these two complaints but was released. Several pieces of evidence, notably the DNA comparison, cleared him of suspicion.
