A final sprint by Tim Wellens allowed him to win the Puget-Théniers – La Turbie stage with a summit finish after climbing the Col d’Eze. He takes on the leader’s jersey in the general classification.
This second stage was full of twists and turns. Crashes, breakaways, and a battle at the summit, culminating in a thrilling finale.
The Colombian Quintana (Arkéa-Samsic) raced ahead at 5 km from the finish, with Tim Wellens (Lotto-Soudal) catching up to him 3 kilometers from the finish line.
Wellens briefly took the lead at 1.3 kilometers before the end of the stage. Quintana regained the lead 300 meters later.
Finally, Wellens took control a few meters from the finish line. He won the stage in 3h45’54” and simultaneously claimed the yellow jersey.
