The world of culture in turmoil: and they’re protesting!!!

Latest News

We should have seen multiple reopenings on December 15. Theaters and cinemas will have to wait a few more weeks before they can raise the curtain after a month and a half of closure due to lockdown. A situation poorly experienced by professionals who ultimately decided to meet in the street.

Prime Minister Jean Castex announced last Thursday that the closure of cultural venues would be extended, at least until January 7, due to the health situation despite the lifting of the lockdown.

Blindsided by the decision to extend the closure of theaters and cinemas, the world of culture wants to ramp up the pressure: a street mobilization and legal actions are being prepared before the Council of State. Meanwhile, the FNCF (National Federation of French Cinemas) invited all theaters to turn their signs back on as a token of the social and cultural link they represent.

Nearly 200 demonstrators marched from Place Garibaldi to Place Massรฉna, this Tuesday morning in Nice, organized by CGT-Spectacle and other associations. A beautiful march that, even if it doesnโ€™t yield results, will at least have had the merit of helping maintain muscle tone and fitness for the reopening.

The slogans reflected the essential role of culture in citizens’ lives. In fact, this is what everyone says about themselves and the professions they practice. This is also what the nearly 60,000 people who have died since the start of the pandemic believed. They will not be able to say it anymore.
