Presentation at the Ephad on Rue des Orangers of new technologies in gerontechnology with KompaiTheRobot, which physically assists and secures the elderly, maintains social connections, and allows for health monitoring.
This new robot prototype will support the efforts of healthcare teams and assist individuals with reduced autonomy by stimulating their cognitive abilities and sociability.
The Kompaï (“companion” in Basque) experiment is being conducted within the framework of an agreement between 27 Delvalle, the headquarters of connected health in Nice, and the Berger-Levrault group, the leading software publisher in the medical-social sector in France.
Humanoid in shape and mounted on wheels, the robot is equipped with sensors, cameras, a microphone, and a touchscreen. Cognitive and playful, it offers games and information to stimulate memory and an alert system for medication or hydration reminders.
If Kompaï detects an anomaly in a person’s behavior, such as a fall, it will trigger an alert by contacting healthcare staff. As a truly intelligent and connected walking aid, this robot also facilitates mobility by physically assisting walking and adapting to the person’s pace.
The experiment in Nice, linked to a national experiment, begins this week and will last several months. This phase will gradually allow the robot to map the locations, and ultimately to finely adapt to the behaviors and needs of the residents and healthcare staff.
