Against the backdrop of a Gaul under Roman occupation—which appears as a mirror of 19th century Italy largely dominated by a foreign power—passions, betrayals, and maternal love intertwine in Norma.
Through its extraordinary musical writing, this celebrated work by Bellini is considered a jewel of bel canto, and the performance of Norma has earned the nickname “role of roles.”
The soprano Yolanda Auyanet will embody this famous and tragic priestess, while her unfaithful lover, the proconsul Pollione, will be portrayed by tenor Walter Fraccaro. The role of Adalgisa will be performed by Alessandra Volpe (soprano), and that of Oroveso by Sergey Artamonov (bass).
As for the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra, it will be conducted by Renato Balsadonna.
