After the huge parties at Ponchettes beach and the bar hopping in the streets over the weekend, interrupted by law enforcement, the Mayor of Nice stressed the importance of continuing to “respect health measures.”
Yes, the situation is improving, vaccination is progressing, but the pandemic still exists, so there is a need to adhere to health measures and curfew hours, at least until the end of the month.
Do we need to remind partygoers that there are still 12,000 people currently hospitalized because they are suffering from severe forms of Covid-19?
On Friday and Saturday, they gathered by the hundreds on Ponchettes beach, most often huddled without masks and not respecting social distancing, before being dispersed by police intervention.
For the authorities, the challenge now is to find ways and means for concerts, sporting events, and other public gatherings to take place in compliance with health measures.
Given the state of affairs, it’s hard to imagine this happening without responsible and cooperative behavior from both young and older citizens.
But between the business owners who only think of their own affairs and the young people who only think of themselves and are by definition uncontrollable in their letting loose, isn’t this a lost cause from the start?
