After a decline in 2016, followed by stabilization in 2017, what does the year 2018 hold on the unemployment front?

In response to this question, Pรดle emploi has provided an initial answer by publishing the figures for the first quarter: 33,000 fewer job seekers, representing a 1% decrease.

In total, there were 3,435,900 unemployed people in March 2018 in mainland France, 3.7 million including the overseas territories. All age groups are benefiting from this improvement.

In the first quarter of 2018, in the Alpes-Maritimes, the number of job seekers required to look for a job and without activity (category A) averaged 69,920 for the quarter.

This number decreased by 1.1% over the quarter (which is -760 people) and by 0.6% over the year.

In Provence-Alpes-Cรดte d’Azur, this number decreased by 0.7% over the quarter (+0.2% over the year).

With quarterly publication instead of monthly, the Pรดle emploi indicator loses the volatility that sparked controversy and better assumes the indication of a trend.
