Nice Ultimed: Jean-Pierre Dick, the Patron with a Niçois Heart

Latest News

Nice, the Mediterranean city, is reconnecting with sailing through a new event, UltiMed, which is both a popular festival and a competition.

Who better to choose as a patron than Jean-Pierre Dick, native of Nice by birth and at heart- “my mother and sister live there”-, even though the demands of a sporting life have led him to “exile” to the other end of the country and choose another sea?

Jean-Pierre Dick needs no introduction; his exploits over the years in the most important nautical races make him one of the best sailors and a highly popular figure in French sailing.

“I am proud to support this initiative which, besides the sporting aspect, can enhance the understanding and allure of the sport of sailing among the people of Nice” – was his first comment before the departure of the maxi-trimarans race.

Nice-Premium: Can we talk about a sea race equivalent to an F1 Grand Prix?

Jean-Pierre Dick: Maybe not to that extent, but these are major racing boats, the skippers are renowned, and they have chosen valuable crew members.

Nice-Premium: Do you think this race will be a success?

Jean-Pierre Dick: It’s the first edition, but it’s well organized. It has attracted a large audience; it’s a true sailing festival thanks to other accompanying initiatives.

Nice-Premium: So, can we say it’s a first and that it will become a regular occurrence?

Jean-Pierre Dick: There is a willingness from the City Hall in this regard. The public’s response will also be important.
