On Friday, June 17, AS Monaco played its second game of the Betclic Elite Finals against the ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne team. After winning the first game in this series on June 15 (74-82), the Monaco team conceded the second match with a score of 91 to 54 against a very determined Villeurbanne team.
Panic on board for the Rocher team, after four completely controlled quarters (QT1: 28-12 / QT2: 22-11 / QT3: 22-14 / QT4: 19-17), T.J Parker’s team responded in the best way possible to the AS Monaco team that had come to claim victory at Astroballe just two days earlier.
The Monaco players were unable to establish their game throughout the match and showed very poor shooting accuracy from the three-point range (20% success) and two-point range (37.8% success). In terms of turnovers as well, AS Monaco was very clumsy, with 13 turnovers compared to 8 for the ASVEL team.
On the Villeurbanne side, it was the French shooting guard Elie Okobo (10 points โ 6 rebounds โ 4 assists โ 18 efficiency rating) who finished as the MVP of the game and led his team to victory. There was also a strong performance from American shooting guard Marcos Knight (11 points), a former AS Monaco player, and American-German power forward Dylan Osetkowski (13 points).
With this defeat, AS Monaco finds itself neck and neck with ASVEL in these Betclic Elite Finals (1-1). The next meeting between the two teams will take place on June 20 in Monaco, at the Salle Gaston Mรฉdecin.
