The EPCR announced today (yesterday, editorโs note) that the finals of the 2020 European Rugby Cups will be held at the Orange Vรฉlodrome stadium in Marseille on May 22 and 23.
Following a competitive bidding process established in collaboration with The Sports Consultancy, the EPCR Board of Directors awarded the hosting of the prestigious weekend to Marseille. The bid was supported by AREMA, the City of Marseille, the Provence-Alpes-Cรดte d’Azur Region, and Olympique de Marseille.
In less than two years, Marseille, a renowned destination on the French Riviera, will become the fourth French city to host a European Cup final, following Bordeaux, Paris, and Lyon.
Marseille has already made its mark on the European club rugby scene in 2010 when the Challenge Cup final between Cardiff Blues and RC Toulon took place at the Stade de Marseille. However, in 2020, it will be the first time that the 67,000-seat venue will host the final of the tournament widely recognized as THE tournament to win (The One to Win).
