ALDE Conference in Nice: European Citizens and Open Solutions

Latest News

This conference, which will take place this Saturday at the Park Inn Radisson, is an important transnational event mainly concerning, but not exclusively, individual members of ALDE.

Speakers and citizens mainly from France, Germany, and Italy, but also from other countries, will address key topics such as migration, security and defense, and Brexit.

ALDE* is a political party whose elected members in the European Parliament are part of the parliamentary group “Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe.”

This party aims to play a decisive role in the 2019 European elections. This goal, however, relies on the parties that make it up and on individual members. Indeed, ALDE includes among its members ministers from many countries, European commissioners, and personalities who can be found on the European site.

The parliamentary group is expected to see its importance significantly increase in the coming years. Its goal is to reach the 2nd rank in the European Parliament elected in 2019.

However, the success of this goal depends on the success of the lists in countries sending many deputies to Strasbourg, notably France. In fact, in France, future candidates for the European elections: LREM, UDI, Modem, Radicaux, Agir… announce that they will sit with the ALDE group if elected.

Converging information suggests that there will be a single list among all these components. Beyond that, at least one French person could be on a list in another Union country. Symmetrically, the French list could include a non-French person. This initiative would be the most efficient way to respond to MEPs who voted against transnational lists.
