France had 2.73 million unemployed people in the third quarter of 2018, according to provisional data released by Insee this Tuesday. The unemployment rate remains constant at 9.1% of the active population in France (excluding Mayotte).


Over the year, the unemployment rate measured by the National Institute of Statistics according to the standards of the International Labour Organization (ILO) has decreased by 0.5 points, returning to its early 2011 level.

In metropolitan France, this rate stands at 8.8%. Metropolitan France has 2.6 million unemployed, which is 22,000 more unemployed people. The second quarter figure was revised by 0.1 point, increasing from 8.7% to 8.8%.

The youth unemployment rate remains above 20%, at 21.3% for the whole of France and 20.6% for metropolitan France. It is noteworthy that the unemployment rate among men aged 15-24 has increased by 1 point. The unemployment rate for those aged 50 and over is 6.4% (France as a whole), marking a decrease of 0.1 points, while it remains nearly stable for those aged 25-49.
