Withdrawal-recall of fuets (Spanish dry sausages) from the French market

Latest News

Between the period from June 24th to July 15th, 45 cases of salmonellosis were identified in France by the National Reference Center for Salmonella. The cause was the consumption of fuets.

All the French individuals showing symptoms of salmonellosis had in common the consumption of Spanish dry sausages. After investigations, the Directorate General of Health confirmed that it was “fuets manufactured by the Spanish establishment EMBUTIDOS CAULA SL.” Given the significant number of contaminated cases, the Directorate General of Food, Health, and Public Health France decided to carry out “a recall of all batches of fuets in the different concerned stores.”

The symptoms of the illness

Salmonellosis is characterized by gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea and vomiting. Additionally, fever and headaches usually occur 6 to 72 hours after consuming the contaminated products. Cases often prone to severe symptoms are children, pregnant women, immunocompromised individuals, and the elderly.
