Optional mask-wearing on public transport

Latest News

After being announced as mandatory, the optional mask-wearing will remain in place on Nice public transport.

The order was supposed to come into force today, Monday, July 11, 2022. This will ultimately not be the case. After reviewing the appeal submitted, the administrative court has decided: optional mask-wearing will remain the norm.

In a statement, the mayor of Nice announced, “I acknowledge the decision and invite everyone to take responsibility.”

He had deemed it necessary to implement mandatory mask-wearing in public transport. The city of Nice is experiencing a rise in its incidence rate. Mr. Christian Estrosi justified this order by the increase in the incidence rate in the department, as well as his concern for the exhaustion of hospital staff.

I note that in the Alpes-Maritimes department, the incidence rate is currently 1,397 per 100,000 inhabitants and that the positivity rate of virological tests is 30.65%.

I remain concerned about the exhausted hospital staff, the high attendance in our area during this summer period, and the risk of hospital stress if this 7th wave continues to progress so rapidly.

A court decision praised by his longtime adversary, Mr. Eric Ciotti.

Eric Ciotti welcomed the decision to suspend the order imposing mask-wearing on public transport.
