OGC Nice: a former captain makes his return to Ligue 1

Latest News

He is making his return to France a year after leaving the Gym.

According to information from Le Télégramme, midfielder Pierre Lees-Melou is set to return to the pitches of Ligue 1. Indeed, the man with 151 championship matches with Dijon and Nice (where he was captain during the 2020-21 season due to the absence of Dante) will be signing with Stade Brestois.

After a remarkably atypical journey (rising from the 6th national division to Ligue 1 in the span of 6 years), Lees-Melou left the Gym just over a year ago to join the Premier League and Norwich.

However, the adventure on the other side of the Channel was not a success for the native of Langon. Arriving with the status of a starter, he eventually became just a substitute over time. Moreover, the Canaries club experienced a nightmarish season, finishing in 20th and last place in the championship. Lees-Melou only made a decisive impact twice in 33 appearances (1 goal and 1 assist).

The Finistère daily informs us that the 29-year-old player is expected to sign with Brest shortly for a duration of three years. The transfer is estimated at €2.3 million, plus a 10% bonus on any potential resale profit.
