A few weeks after the last heatwave, ranked as the third most intense heatwave that France has ever experienced, a new heatwave episode started this Monday.
It is expected to affect the south of France on Monday before moving north on Tuesday and Wednesday. Temperatures of 35 to 39 degrees during the day, along with sweltering nights, are anticipated.
Moreover, temperatures of 36 degrees were recorded in Marseille, Montpellier, and Perpignan on Sunday at 4:00 PM, and 38 degrees in Nรฎmes.
According to scientists, this increase in episodes of intense heat is a direct consequence of climate change. Indeed, greenhouse gas emissions (related to energy production, transportation, and industry) are increasing both the intensity, duration, and frequency of these episodes. By 2050, these heat events could double. We are witnessing a manifestation of climate change and its effects on living conditions on the earth’s surface.
