The 28th Independent Carnival of Sant Ròc scheduled for this Sunday, the 5th, in the St Roch district has been canceled.
It returned to St Roch, under the rain in 2016, after an 8-year absence (following the problems in 2008, it was moved to the Château hill from 2011 to 2015).
Since 2011, it has been organized and declared by the association “Nissa Pantai – Centre Cultural Occitan País Nissart e Alpenc.”
However, it was the music group Nux Vomica that first originated it in 1990.
This year, following the July 14, 2016 attacks, security requirements have increased. The Prefecture of Alpes-Maritimes and the City of Nice have confined neighborhood Carnivals to gardens with security personnel screenings at their entrances.
We had the possibility to organize the 28th Independent Carnival of Sant Ròc in the Caressa garden (between the Giono College and the St Roch church); however, we would have had to bear the cost of the sworn security agents (we do not have the financial means to pay them).
Moreover, since its creation, this Independent Carnival aims to be: FREE, INDEPENDENT, and FREE OF CHARGE.
This Independent Carnival was created to rediscover the origins of this ancestral festivity (with the conviviality of shared meals, costumes, and small floats made by participants.
