In Nice, women and men are rallying for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

Since 1999, November 25th has been the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Supported by the United Nations, this day provides an opportunity to highlight all forms of violence, both physical and moral, that women face, ranging from harassment to femicides or rapes. On this occasion, the people of Nice have mobilized.


Last night, Thursday, November 25th, the 06 Collective for Women’s Rights organized a march from the train station to Place Massรฉna. The representatives of the collective took the opportunity to reiterate their demands: “a world that refuses, prohibits, and fights against violence“.

In France, since January 1st, 2021, there have been 103 femicides, 65% of these victims had contacted the judiciary, reveals the association. A study conducted in 2019 by the Ministry of Justice focusing on domestic homicides revealed that 85% of the perpetrators of these crimes were men and that 83% of the victims were women.

Each year in France, 94,000 women are victims of rape or attempted rape. Among those who file complaints, “66% report inadequate care and 67.8% state they faced trivialization of the facts, reflecting an entrenched rape culture in our society“, add the representatives of the 06 Collective for Women’s Rights.

Last February, the #NousToutes collective launched a survey on consent in heterosexual relationships. The results revealed alarming statistics as 9 out of 10 women acknowledged experiencing pressure for sexual intercourse with a man, and two out of three women had experienced non-consensual sexual acts.

After highlighting other equally shocking figures, the 06 Collective for Women’s Rights, accompanied by about a hundred men and women, took to the streets, singing the Women’s Anthem and chanting the verses “Rise up, enslaved women, and break our chains. Stand up, stand up, stand up!“.

On Saturday, another demonstration to defend women’s rights will take place in Nice, starting from Place du Gรฉnรฉral de Gaulle at 3 PM.
