Nice (7th) caused an upset by easily winning the first leg of the Ligue A quarter-finals (3-0) last night on Montpellier’s (2nd) home court.
Impressive in defense, the team from Nice handed a real thrashing to Montpellier (25-23, 26-24, 25-20).
The newcomers did not drop a single set to the MVUC, despite them being seen as a very credible contender for the title.
The Azureans are now eagerly awaiting the Montpellier team next Monday (8:30 PM) in front of their home crowd.
They are now in the position of favorites: they will attempt to confirm this impressive result while Montpellier is already backed into a corner. Only a win at Palmeira will allow them to force a tiebreaker match in their own venue.
Their elimination would mark the first upset of the 2017 playoffs.
