A demonstration against the cost of living marked by looting

On Saturday, October 17, nearly 3,800 people mobilized in Nice’s city center as part of a call to demonstrate against the cost of living. Launched by the Yellow Vests, the gathering brought together Nice’s youth, mobilized around demands related to the political and economic context.

Armed with signs and flags, the protesters walked along Avenue Jean-Médecin, before passing through Boulevard Grosso and reaching Place Garibaldi. The gathering, which had not been declared to the prefecture, required the mobilization of law enforcement.

The situation then escalated with the arrival of a group of rioters. Authorities report the presence of « 150 looters », one of whom was injured. Several businesses were looted in the city center, including JD Sports, Micromania, and Decathlon. A Yamaha motorcycle dealership was also affected.

In the aftermath of the events, several local political leaders took positions on the violence and the conditions of law enforcement operations. Avenue Jean-Médecin, a commercial hub in the city center, is among the sectors impacted by the incidents that occurred during the demonstration.

In this context, OGC Nice chose to address affected merchants directly. The club thus reaffirms its commitment to the Nice Commerce and Craft Federation, with which the Gym maintains a long-standing partnership.
