As part of the “Airs en famille” season, the Nice Baroque Ensemble will perform a program of suites and concertos by BACH, father & son, Johann Sebastian and Carl Philipp Emanuel.

While Johann Sebastian Bach left a significant mark on music history, considered as “the greatest of musicians, the Homer of music” (Beethoven), he was himself part of a five-generation lineage of musicians, and fathered four innovative composers. Carl Philipp, the most famous among them, benefited from his father’s teachings and interaction with musicians who came to visit. However, he emancipated himself from his father’s influence to create his own style, mastering the expression of contrasts and emotions, announcing the classical period.

The musical ensemble:

Amélie Michel, flute
Gilbert Bezzina, violin and direction
Jaroslaw Adamus – Laura Corolla – Marie-Agnès Le Tellier, violins
Myriam Mahnane, viola
Daniele Bovo, cello
Vera Elliott, harpsichord

The program:

Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (1714-1788)
Sinfonia No. 5 for strings and b. c. in B minor
Flute Concerto in G major Wq 169

Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750)
Violin Concerto in E major BWV 1042
