Two Azureans Carrying the Paralympic Flame

During the passage of the Paralympic flame in Antibes on August 25, 2024, two locals from the Cรดte dโ€™Azur are selected to carry the torch.

The Olympic flame is a tradition that marks the beginning of the entire competition. This year, France is hosting the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The route of the flame will also pass by the Cรดte dโ€™Azur. Thus, two residents from the Alpes-Maritimes area will be the bearers of the flame.

โ€œThe passage of the Paralympic Flame on our territory, next August 25, will be an exceptional moment of sharing and conviviality for all locals and will highlight the Alpes-Maritimes, a true land of sport,โ€ says Charles Ange Ginรฉsy, the president of the Alpes-Maritimes department. The flame will cross the English Channel and reach the Alpes-Maritimes on Sunday, August 25, 2024, passing through Antibes Juan-les-Pins.

The department decides to focus on themes of inclusion and disability, honoring two locals who will join the relay of bearers:

  • Raphaรซl Dutay, World and European Champion in adapted sports, in swimming, affiliated with Olympic Nice Natation (ONN).
  • Sรฉbastien Filippini, Founding President of the Niรงoise Association of Cultural and Sports Initiatives (ANICES), torball player.
