On March 22, 2024, the High Local Council for Climate and Biodiversity was fervently held in Nice. The discussions highlighted the urgent need to adapt to a new reality: natural storms.

Under the leadership of Christian Estrosi, the mayor of Nice, the meeting emphasized the importance of this awareness. Notably in reference to Storm Aline, which fortunately caused little damage, partly thanks to the cleaning done by Storm Alex.

Concrete Actions for a Resilient Future

The city of Nice is considering a series of proactive measures. Including a tree-planting project where needed, and the removal of dangerous trees for public safety.

To develop an effective adaptation strategy for the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, 17 volunteer experts were mobilized. These specialists, experts in various fields related to the ecological transition, were divided into 4 distinct working groups:

  1. Anticipation and Preparation for Natural Disasters
  2. Management of Natural Resources
  3. Sustainable Land Development and Biodiversity Protection
  4. Mobilization and Awareness of the Population

Each group formulated specific recommendations to address the growing environmental and climatic challenges. These recommendations constitute an essential guide to shape policies and concrete measures in favor of a sustainable future for Nice and its citizens.

Raise Awareness, Mobilize, Act

In this context, group 4 emphasized the urgency of raising awareness among the population. It is crucial to educate citizens, mobilize them, and make them engage with the challenges of the ecological transition through action.

Together, the High Local Council for Climate and Biodiversity remains committed to working in collaboration with all stakeholders to implement these recommendations and advance the environmental sustainability agenda in the region.
