The Tende Tunnel: A Subject of Attention and Vigilance

Latest News

The famous Tende tunnel continues to make headlines. And never for good reasons!
After years of discussions, an inter-state agreement was reached for the construction of a second tunnel to allow two-way traffic without alternation.
Unfortunately, this did not take into account the local “context.” Very recently, a legal procedure was initiated in Italy by the prosecutor of Cuneo due to the existence of defects in the construction of the tunnel.

The prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes met with the mayors of the Roya Valley today (Editorโ€™s note: yesterday), regarding the Tende tunnel in the presence of the departmental council.

At the request of the prefect, and with the agreement of the prosecutor of Nice, experts were sent to the site to carry out necessary inspections. These assessments highlighted the existence of a severe crack, leading to the instability of a support wall of a structure near the tunnel.

Based on these analyses, the prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes requested the president of the departmental council to undertake reinforcement work on the wall. The president agreed, and the work will begin tomorrow, Friday, June 16.

There will be the installation of 80 blocks and 200 cubic meters of backfill.

This work will necessitate the closure of the road for the strictly necessary duration. It will be closed for 3 days from Monday, June 19 to Thursday, June 22, 6 a.m. This wall is under daily surveillance by the departmental council.
