This Sunday, the Eagles traveled to Tourcoing’s field for the 7th day of the Marmara SpikeLigue. After five consecutive defeats, the team from Nice won in four sets (25-21/24-26/25-23/25-22).
After a complicated start to the season, Nice Volley Ball wanted to bounce back quickly. On Tuesday, the Eagles came very close to a second victory this season before giving up in the final set (2-3) against Chaumont. Stuck in the second-to-last place in the standings, the players from Nice traveled to Tourcoing’s field.
The Northern team is leading the championship with six victories in as many matches. It was also the first game for the Eagles without รric Montagnon, as the coach from Nice resigned during the week. Fabrice Chalendar, his assistant, took over on the bench for Nice Volley Ball.
The Eagles start the match well
The first set was tight between the two teams. The Eagles were well-present in their match. The team from Nice widened the gap at the end of the set, thanks particularly to successful attacks from the opposite hitter, Luis Paolinetti. The second set was very similar to the first. The match was balanced, with neither team managing to widen the gap. Ultimately, it was Tourcoing that won this set, making the difference in the final points. The Northern team leveled the sets to one apiece (26-24), despite the intense performance of Luis Paolinetti and Mattรฉo Schalk on the Nice side.
The Eagles efficient and performant in attack
The two teams remained close throughout this match. Luis Paolinetti continued to trouble Tourcoing with each of his attacks. Despite a tight end to the set, the team from Nice won this third set (25-23), with an ace by Franco Mรฉdina. The Eagles took the lead in the match for the second time.
But the Northern team came back once again into the game. Tourcoing led the race in the fourth set, but the Eagles regained the lead at the end of the set. Rodney Ah-Kong’s teammates secured the victory with a final mistake by their opponent of the evening (25-21/24-26/25-23/25-22). The Eagles returned to victory following a very good performance, their first win away this season. The team from Nice ended their series of five consecutive defeats.
