The Festi Jazz, a beautiful tribute to the Grappelli space

Latest News

This Thursday, November 30, to December 2, Nice will host three concerts and an exhibition at the Grappelli space. An event organized by AnimaNice Cimiez, the “Festi Jazz.”

This event is being organized in tribute to the passing of Stรฉphane Grappelli, which occurred 26 years ago. A violinist who is among the greatest jazz violinists of the twentieth century, he is notably famous for having collaborated in the creation of the “Quintette du Hot Club de France” alongside Django Reinhardt. The artist from Paris will lend his name to the hall that will host this jazz festival. A festival consisting of one concert per day over the three days of the event and an exhibition on the first day.

What will the program be?

Thursday, November 30:

The festival will start on Thursday at 8:30 PM with a show offered by the Djalamichto Quartet. A jazz musician quartet that fits into the gypsy jazz style. They will present a musical program in the tradition of Gypsy Jazz by Django Reinhardt, incorporating standards and some of their original compositions. They will call upon Liviu Muzsikus, a Hungarian violinist virtuoso of traditional Gypsy music.

But before this show, there will be a varnishing by the self-taught painter Bernard Brunstein. An exhibition titled “On a Musical Note” where the artist intertwines words and colors on his canvases.

Friday, December 1:

At 8:30 PM on Friday, the JAES Group will perform. A music group that plays with purely jazz sounds, but also world music. Through their music, they will tell you their stories filled with emotions, humor, sharing, and sensitivity. Offering you a sort of mental journey.

Saturday, December 2

The third and final day will provide an ultimate tribute to Grappelli, this time by Franรงois Arnaud. To better understand Franรงois Arnaud’s tribute, a bit of historical context is necessary.

During the beginning of the Second World War, Stรฉphane Grappelli was on tour with the Quintette du Hot Club de France. When the sirens sounded, Django Reinhardt left England to return to France. However, Grappelli was unable to return due to a health issue, staying and playing in England throughout the war. This was a very important period for the development of his career. He found his artistic and musical identity progressively through his compositions. It is in this context that Franรงois Arnaud wishes to pay tribute to Grappelli.
