This Wednesday, June 5, 2024, an assessment of the palliative care services was conducted at the Clinique Saint Dominique by Christian Estrosi.

In France, 50% of the need for palliative care beds is not met. In the Alpes-Maritimes, the number of beds is also insufficient. โ€œThe regional equipment rate in Provence Alpes Cรดte dโ€™Azur is 3.8 palliative care unit beds per 100,000 inhabitants. The Alpes-Maritimes has 2.2 palliative care unit beds per 100,000 inhabitants. This is therefore largely insufficient.โ€ stated Christian Estrosi to highlight the shortage of beds in the PACA region.

The Clinique Saint Dominique offers medical care, rehabilitation, and palliative care. It plans to establish a new palliative care unit with 12 beds. The clinic operates on a non-profit basis, caring for and treating more than 1,000 patients per year. โ€œWe have been waiting for this palliative care unit for 10 years,โ€ indicated Gรฉrald Roux, chairman of the Board of Directors of Clinique Saint Dominique.

Patients arrive with the desire to quickly end their suffering. The goal of the clinic is to support them and to โ€œshare their wishes, and their greatest dreamsโ€ that they have never been able to achieve. โ€œAn institution of great rigor and great humanity. I hope that it will be a text that opens the freedom of conscience. In the relationship with the patient and the doctor, the freedom of decision, and who is better placed than the patient to call upon their doctor, and who better than the doctor is there to say: yes, but or no.โ€ supported the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi.
