Margot Chevrier, a top-notch mindset

At the age of 17, Margot Chevrier already embodies the future of Azur athletics. Balancing studies and intense physical work, she is a source of pride for her loved ones. Characterized by an unwavering mental strength, she does not hesitate to set the bar high in all areas she intends to pursue…

“A machine whose off button has not been activated.” That is how the young pole vaulter is described by those close to her. Equipped with rather respectable physical qualities, it is above all her ironclad mentality that makes her a true hope for French athletics. Her overflowing passion and impeccable dedication impress her peers, especially her coach Sebastien Reisdorffer, who is a genuine mentor to the young girl: “She is determined. She knows what she wants, and she will get it. She is an example for the entire training group because she puts in the necessary commitment for success.”

Born into a family of athletes, she started testing various disciplines at a very young age. Judo, horseback riding, climbing… nothing satisfied her. Margot wanted to follow in her father’s footsteps and pursue athletics. However, running, her father’s favorite event, quickly bored her, as she now desired to take on pole vaulting.

This desire comes from her coach. It was he who helped her decide between this peculiar discipline and high jump. It was worth it when you see the success the young prodigy is experiencing now. Her hard work earned her a spot in the 2017 French Elite Championships. A wonderful reward after great performances such as a 4th place finish at the French Youth Championships. Not enough to satisfy Margot, the eternal seeker. She always wants more, sometimes to excess… A point on which the athlete is clear: “Perseverance is good, but sometimes it’s too much. I should let go, and I don’t. Sometimes, I get angry. I lose patience when I don’t succeed.”

There is no doubt that the maturity gained over the years and experiences will allow her to use this surplus of desire wisely. But already, her rapid progress impresses those around her. Now capable of clearing 3.95 meters, Margot was not among those destined to become high-level athletes. “Initially, she was meant to do 1000m. We told her she would never clear 3m,” admits her coach. But once again, her tenacity silences her critics.

Solid on the track, she is equally so when it comes to studying. Graduating with honors in the scientific baccalaureate, the young Drap native is embarking on a new challenging adventure, the first year of medical school. Not something that scares someone who seems unstoppable. However, she admits she has to reduce her training frequency to prioritize her studies.

An extremely ambitious academic goal, but one that conceals a no less daring sporting objective. Her coach and she have marked a key date in her athletic career with determination: the European Championships that will take place in two years. Much effort and courage will be needed to be ready to compete with the top European performers. But courage is not something Margot Chevrier lacks…
