Conclusion this Saturday of the 1st edition of the French Riviera Open hosted by the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy in its magnificent facilities.

This international wheelchair tennis tournament brought together the world’s best players in the discipline. Among them were World No. 1 and Paralympic Champion Gordon Reid (GB), World No. 2 Diede Groot (NED), World No. 1 and multi-Paralympic medalist in the Quad category, David Wagner (USA).

On the French front, the participating athletes included France’s No. 1, Charlotte Famin, and the Paralympic Doubles Champion from the Rio Games, Nicolas Peifer.

In total, 40 players competed across 6 categories: Women’s Singles / Men’s Singles / Quad Singles – Women’s Doubles / Men’s Doubles / Quad Doubles.

The tournament director is Michaรซl Jรฉrรฉmiasz, Paralympic Doubles Champion at the Beijing Games, former World No. 1, and Flag Bearer for the French Paralympic Team, who thus organized this first international Paralympic competition.

For him, “This tournament is also a tremendous opportunity to promote wheelchair tennis, but more broadly, to encourage the practice of sports for all and to contribute to changing the way we view disability.”

Patrick Mouratoglou expresses equal satisfaction: “Hosting a wheelchair tennis tournament of such magnitude is not only a source of pride for me but it is also an opportunity to remind our young people of what truly embodies the essence of sport: effort, self-sacrifice, and simply the will.”
