The Alpes-Maritimes Cancer Fighting Association held its annual New Year’s ceremony this Friday, January 31, 2025. It was a significant moment to remind everyone of the actions taken in 2024 and to unveil projects for the upcoming year.

Laurence Cressin-Bensa, president of the League Against Cancer of Alpes-Maritimes, opened the evening with a message of hope and determination. For more than a century, the League Against Cancer has been working towards screening, research, and supporting patients and their families. โ€œThanks to your donations and support, we have been able to carry out concrete actions that have led to major advances in patient care,โ€ emphasized the president. However, she also reminded everyone that the work is far from over: โ€œThere is still so much to do to ensure equitable access to care and improve the quality of life for patients.โ€

A 2024 Review Marked by New Initiatives

The past year was rich in achievements. Among the highlights:

  • The opening of new Axel Kahn Houses in Nice and Antibes, spaces dedicated to supporting patients.
  • The launch of the Proxy League program, allowing isolated patients to receive in-home support care.
  • The creation of the “Entreprendre le Cancer” association, aimed at helping patients through professional reconversion.
  • A convention signed with the Nice Cรดte dโ€™Azur Metropolis to strengthen awareness and prevention efforts.

A Look Towards the Future

For 2025, the association intends to consolidate these initiatives while developing new actions:

  • Continuation of support care deployment, especially targeting rural areas.
  • Development of a school-based prevention program, with a focus on HPV vaccination and fighting tobacco use.
  • Strengthening partnerships with the economic world to ensure stable financial support for ongoing projects.

The Importance of Support Care

Present at the ceremony, Professor Renรฉ-Jean Bensadoun, a radiation oncologist and cancer specialist, emphasized the importance of support care in patient management: โ€œWe have scientific evidence that this care not only improves quality of life but also survival chances.โ€ He stressed the need to structure and medicalize these supports so they benefit as many people as possible.

A Message of Hope and Action

โ€œCancer remains a terrible ordeal, but it is also a battle that we can win,โ€ concluded Laurence Cressin-Bensa. โ€œWith you, thanks to your commitment, we will continue to fight, support, and innovate. Because together, we are stronger.โ€

The ceremony ended with the screening of a short film illustrating the impact of the associationโ€™s actions on the lives of patients and their families. A new year begins, with new challenges to face, but always with the same determination.
