The opposition councilor takes a critical view of the executive’s actions, which have made the public illumination plan one of the major focuses of their activities during the year-end festivities.

“Last year, I already expressed concern about the amount the city allocated to year-end illuminations. In 2016, it amounted to one million euros, which is twice the sum spent in Strasbourg or even Paris,” he stated in a press release.

According to him, in 2017, the budget allocated by the city of Nice for illuminations is skyrocketing. According to the Journal du net, it would reach 1,520,000 euros, or 4.5 euros per inhabitant.

His criticism is clear: “Even though we can only support efforts to enhance the attractiveness of the city of Nice for the holidays, there comes a point where we need to be reasonable, especially when the city struggles to house the homeless during a severe cold wave.”
