This Sunday marked the end of EuroBasket 2025 with the success of Germany led by Daniel Theis. Three other members of the Roca Team were present at this competition.
There is a new European champion within the Roca Team! This Sunday in Riga, Latvia, Germany won the EuroBasket final against Turkey. With a victory of 88-83, Dennis Schröder was decisive at the end of the match, scoring the last six points of the game. After their success at the 2023 World Cup, the Mannschaft wins its second Euro title in history, following their victory in 1993.
Within this German team was the Monegasque Daniel Theis. Demonstrating excellent performance throughout the competition, like his team, the 33-year-old center finished the tournament with very good statistics. Over 9 games played, he averaged 10.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 0.9 assists. This final title boosts his confidence ahead of the new season.
A successful debut for Jordan Loyd with Poland
Jordan Loyd, who gained Polish nationality at the beginning of the year, participated in his first international competition with Poland. The team had high expectations for the guard. He managed the pressure perfectly, helping his country to advance from a very challenging group, which included France, Israel, and Luka Doncic’s Slovenia.
The Monegasque was on fire in front of the basket, scoring 32 points against Slovenia, 27 against Israel, and 26 against Bosnia. These three performances led Poland to victory against their opponents. His 18 points against France were not enough for a win. In the Round of 16 against Bosnia and Herzegovina, Jordan Loyd was once again unstoppable with 28 points.
Unfortunately, his 19 points against Turkey in the quarterfinals did not enable his team to reach the semifinals. The AS Monaco Basket player finished the competition with an average of 22.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2 assists.
Disappointment for Elie Okobo and Team France
There was huge disappointment for Elie Okobo and Team France. In the same group as Poland, the French team had finished on top, seemingly setting up an easy Round of 16 on paper. However, the match against Georgia told a different story. Elie Okobo’s teammates chased the score for almost the entire game. The Monegasque guard scored only nine points, two rebounds, and three assists in this match.
A heavy blow for Frédéric Fauthoux’s team. Even though the group was young and depleted due to withdrawals, the opponent was very much within their reach. Elie Okobo concluded the tournament with an average of 12.7 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 5 assists. All of this appeared secondary in comparison to the huge disappointment of exiting EuroBasket for the Olympic silver medalists.
The bronze medal for Vassilis Spanoulis’ Greece
Roca Team’s coach, Vassilis Spanoulis, was also present during this European championship. He led his Greek national team to the third place and the bronze medal. This marked Greece’s sixth European medal in history. A success that again highlights the excellent work of the Monegasque coach, greatly aided by an NBA star.
Indeed, Giannis Antetokounmpo guided his team to the medal with an impressive stat line. He averaged 27.3 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 4.1 assists throughout the competition. The “Greek Freak” carried his team throughout the competition. The Milwaukee Bucks forward achieved his first medal with his country, further cementing his place in Greek legend.
For the Roca Team, the competition resumes from September 20 with the SuperCup, a new competition to be held at Roland Garros. Meanwhile, the Betclic Elite championship resumes on September 28 against Le Portel.
