For the third consecutive week, a demonstration against the cost of living is planned in the streets of Nice this Saturday, October 31, 2026. Called by the Solidaires 06 trade union, the march will depart from Place Masséna at 2 p.m. before heading to the port. This time, the demonstration has been officially declared at the prefecture and will avoid Avenue Jean-Médecin.
After two Saturdays marked by undeclared gatherings, the mobilization against rising costs is taking a new form in Nice. Solidaires 06 trade union has officially declared a demonstration to the Alpes-Maritimes prefecture for this Saturday, October 31, 2026.
This third meeting takes place in a particular context. The first gathering, organized on October 17, was marked by violence and looting of shops. On Saturday, October 24, despite a prefectural ban, several hundred people marched again through the city center. However, the day had unfolded peacefully.
For this new mobilization, organizers have chosen a route that will not pass through Avenue Jean-Médecin, the city’s main commercial axis. A decision that could limit the impact on business activity, already affected by the two previous Saturdays.
A departure from Place Masséna at 2 p.m., a route to the port
The gathering will begin at 2 p.m. on Place Masséna. The march will then take Boulevard Jean-Jaurès, Place Garibaldi and Rue Cassini. The demonstrators will continue their route via Quai Papacino, Quai des États-Unis and Avenue Max-Gallo, before returning to Place Masséna around 5 p.m.
The demonstration is expected to last three hours. The Alpes-Maritimes prefecture indicates that appropriate supervision by law enforcement is planned to ensure the safety of demonstrators, residents and merchants.
Prefect Jean-Marie Girier also organized a preparatory meeting with security forces. A meeting with the organizers was furthermore proposed in the middle of the week to finalize the arrangements for supporting the march. “I fully understand the concerns of your members about the consequences that demonstrations can have on businesses, bookings and attendance at establishments”, the state representative had declared.
The absence of passage on Avenue Jean-Médecin constitutes a notable change for downtown merchants. Since the start of the movement, Saturday demonstrations have resulted in a decline in foot traffic and business activity in the area.
According to UMIH 06, professionals on Avenue Jean-Médecin and in the shopping center recorded an average decline of 50% in their turnover on these days.
It now remains to be seen whether this third mobilization will finally unfold peacefully, as the two previous gatherings led authorities to strengthen their security operation in downtown Nice. In order to prevent further disturbances in the evening, Éric Ciotti announced the return of a curfew for minors on the occasion of Halloween night, from Saturday, October 31 at 10 p.m. to Sunday, November 1, 2026 at 6 a.m. This curfew will apply to the Ariane, Bon Voyage, Louis Braille, downtown and Moulins areas.
