Stade Brestois handed a severe defeat to OGC Nice with a score of (4-1) in a match that saw the Eaglets sink in the port of Brest. A performance to quickly forget before Wednesday’s match against AS Roma in the Europa Leagueโฆ
A serious start from the Niรงois was hoped for, or at least a bit more concentration for an away match. The Eaglets were rather shocking by conceding two unfortunate goals in quick succession, leading to a nightmarish evening. Stade Brestois, on the other hand, started the match full throttle, with attacks that could awaken a hibernating bear.
Evidently surprised and stunned at the start, the Niรงois were caught in a stranglehold during the duels, notably on the wings, which resembled a Breton Promenade! This intense pressing quickly paid off: an early goal for Brest in the 6th minute, by Yvan Ajorque, who deceived the Nice goalkeeper in a difficult area, then shortly after, around the 9th minute, a beautiful long-range goal by Romain Del Castillo. SB29 seemed to have already done the hardest part, and Nice appeared unable to contain the opposing waves. Just three short minutes to dunk the Niรงois into the water. Brest opportunities followed one after another, while Nice tried to fill the gaps but without truly being dangerous.
OGC Nice comes back, but not for long
Stung to the quick, the Eaglets tried to fend off humiliation as best they could. The Niรงoisโ pride paid off in the 30th minute, thanks to a masterful pass from Hicham Boudaoui to Terem Moffi, who controlled with his chest on the edge of offside before putting the ball in, allowing the Eaglets to head to the locker room with a score of (2-1). A goal that reignited the match and promised much more for the Niรงois. But nothing hoped for would materialize after the break. The doubts from the catastrophic match start seemed to resurface and the Niรงois lost their self-control as the minutes went by. It was an evidently shaken team that continued to fight without their usual weapons, losing confidence with each Breton attack.
Brest seals victory in the second half
The Brestois logically regained the upper hand, spurred on by their public and especially reassured by the Eaglets’ inefficiency, unable to soar higher or at least match the level of their opponents of the day, who were increasingly dominating the match. Unsurprisingly, the protรฉgรฉs of former Niรงois Eric Roy scored two more goals, courtesy of Joris Chotard (70โ) and Labeau-Lascary (76โ). Soundly defeated by such a heavy score, the Eaglets will plunge to drown in the Brittany seaโฆ
An evening to forget before facing AS Roma on Wednesday
But this happens to all great teams, and instead of lamenting and sinking into doubt, it’s better to forget this poor evening and look straight ahead to prepare more seriously for the rest of the season. Starting with Wednesday’s match against AS Roma in the Europa League. The Eaglets can wake up and delight once more. They must, especially, to no longer doubt.
