A fire broke out in Nice-East on Friday, May 1, 2026 in the evening. The fire department’s intervention began at 10:40 PM after a fire was reported in an apartment located on Doctor Pierre Richelmi Street. The incident concerned a 2-room apartment located within an eight-story building.
Upon arrival of emergency services, the occupants had already left the premises, which allowed for faster intervention by the teams deployed. Significant smoke discharge was visible from outside the building, requiring the mobilization of substantial resources.
Thirty firefighters were deployed on site to contain and then extinguish the fire. Operations also included inspections of common areas and other apartments to rule out any risk of spread. At 11:20 PM, no victims had yet been reported by emergency services.
Two victims treated and significant material damage
During the intervention, two people were eventually treated by rescue teams. A 27-year-old woman, occupant of the damaged apartment, was transported as a non-urgent case to Pasteur 2 hospital center. An 8-month-old infant, exposed to smoke, was also treated and transported as a non-urgent case to Lenval hospital.
The material damage report indicates significant damage inside the apartment. The living room, covering approximately 20 m², was completely destroyed by the flames. Approximately 50 m² of additional space was affected by smoke, which required prolonged ventilation and inspection operations to secure the premises and prevent any fire resumption.
The origin of the fire remains unknown at this stage. Fire department operations continued throughout the night before ending at 6:30 AM on Saturday, May 2, 2026.
