Three gatherings are planned in Nice between Tuesday, October 27 and Saturday, October 31, 2026. The events will focus on different issues: municipal security policy, violence and looting, and then protests against the cost of living.
Three gatherings are to be held in Nice over the coming days. The first is scheduled this Tuesday, October 27 at 6 p.m. in front of the town hall, at the call of several trade union, associative and political organizations. On Thursday, October 29, the citizens’ collective “La France Résiste!” is calling for a gathering at the Palais des Expositions at 6:30 p.m. Finally, a demonstration is planned Saturday, October 31 at 2 p.m., at Place Masséna.
These events come after the demonstration on Saturday, October 24, which was banned by prefectural decree but took place in Nice with more than 2,300 participants. The three calls provide for different locations, times and demands.
This Tuesday, October 27, a gathering in front of Nice’s town hall
The first event is scheduled for this Tuesday at 6 p.m. in front of the town hall. Several trade union, associative and political organizations wish to call on Mayor Éric Ciotti and the government regarding the management of the social movement.
The signatories denounce “a headlong rush into security policy by a reactionary far-right mayor”. Their call focuses notably on the defense of the right to protest, opposition to the repression of the social movement and opposition to the far right.
Among the signatory organizations are notably the CGT Union of Alpes-Maritimes, the FSU 06, the Nice Human Rights League, The Ecologists of Nice, La France insoumise 06 and the PCF 06. Several associations involved in defending human rights and supporting exiled persons also support this initiative.
The organizers wish to “call on the mayor, Éric Ciotti, and the government, as social movements of historic proportions have been left without response for a month.”
Thursday, October 29, a gathering against violence and looting
The second event is planned for Thursday, October 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the Palais des Expositions, on the Europa esplanade. The citizens’ collective “La France Résiste!”, which initiated the call, is continuing its tour of France following a stop in Grenoble on October 23.
The collective wishes to denounce urban violence, looting of shops and vandalism suffered in recent weeks. In its call, the organization evokes the “disturbing and organized increase in violence, looting and destruction of shops affecting our cities.”
The organizers present the gathering as static, peaceful and apolitical. The initiative is open to all citizens, regardless of political affiliation or leaning. The collective also intends to express its support for law enforcement, firefighters, shopkeepers and residents affected by violence.
Participants are invited to bring French flags. According to information provided by the collective, the gathering has been declared with the prefecture.
Saturday, October 31, a new demonstration at Place Masséna
A third event is planned for Saturday, October 31 at 2 p.m., at Place Masséna. Presented as an “act III” of the mobilization, this demonstration is part of the ongoing protest against the cost of living.
The call circulated on social networks invites participants to come dressed up for Halloween, under the slogan “All disguised to resist!” The event poster notably features zombies, witches and skeletons around a banner reading “Angry students.” The organizers present the gathering as peaceful.
This demonstration is announced as several security measures remain in force in the Alpes-Maritimes until Sunday, November 1 at 11 p.m. The restrictions notably concern fireworks, pyrotechnic articles, the transportation of fuel in small containers as well as certain equipment that could be used during public disorder.
The mayor of Nice, Éric Ciotti, also indicated that he reserves the possibility of reinstating a curfew for minors as of next weekend, in consultation with the Alpes-Maritimes prefect if the situation requires it.
The three gatherings announced this week in Nice thus focus on distinct demands, with events scheduled Tuesday in front of the town hall, Thursday at the Palais des Expositions and Saturday at Place Masséna.
