The mayor of Tourrette-Levens, Bertrand Gasiglia, has been elected president of Ligne d’Azur Authority. The public structure manages public transportation for the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis. Julien Picot also joins the board of directors with several demands on mobility in the eastern part of the territory.
The governance of Ligne d’Azur Authority is evolving. Bertrand Gasiglia, mayor of Tourrette-Levens, has been elected president of Ligne d’Azur Authority (RLA), a public industrial and commercial establishment responsible for public transportation in the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis. Bertrand Gasiglia succeeds Gaël Nofri, former president of the authority and deputy mayor under Christian Estrosi’s administration.
Created in 2013, Ligne d’Azur Authority ensures the operation and development of the Lignes d’Azur network across 51 municipalities in the metropolis. The structure also manages the Mobil’Azur service for people with reduced mobility as well as the maintenance of the network’s infrastructure. Last year, 109 million passengers were transported on the three tram lines and nearly 100 bus lines of the network.
Following this election, Bertrand Gasiglia outlined the priorities of his term: “I was elected President of LIGNE D’AZUR AUTHORITY with the support of President Eric Ciotti. This mission represents a strong commitment to serving an essential daily issue: offering an increasingly efficient, accessible, sustainable transportation network adapted to the needs of our territory’s residents. Mobility is a major lever for quality of life, the attractiveness of our Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis and ecological transition. With all the teams, elected officials and partners, I will commit fully to continuing the improvement of services provided to users and meeting future challenges. Let’s get to work.”
Éric Ciotti also reacted to this appointment: “with commitment, he will work every day to strengthen the efficiency and quality of public transportation for the residents of our metropolis!”
Julien Picot advocates for free transportation and tram extension
Julien Picot has been elected to the board of directors of Ligne d’Azur Authority. In a statement published after this appointment, Julien Picot announces his intention to champion several issues related to public transportation and territorial equality.
Julien Picot notably advocates for free urban transportation. The elected official believes this measure addresses purchasing power, social justice and ecological transition issues.
The new board member also wishes to revive the debate on extending tram line 5 to Ariane, La Trinité and Drap. Julien Picot believes that residents in the eastern part of the metropolis should benefit from new infrastructure and a network adapted to daily commuting.
In this position, Julien Picot also criticizes the abandonment of the line 4 project toward Cagnes-sur-Mer and questions the choice made by Brayan Masson, National Rally mayor of the municipality. Julien Picot believes this decision penalizes residents of the area despite their contribution to metropolitan transportation funding.
The situation of the hills and outlying areas is also among the subjects raised. Julien Picot alerts to inadequate service and schedules unsuited for daily commuting.
In this statement, Julien Picot finally calls on Bertrand Gasiglia and Éric Ciotti to pursue “an ambitious public transportation policy” focused on “the general interest and the needs of the population.”
