The Nice players won the silver medal during the return phases of the French Women’s Torball Championship held in Reims. The Côte d’Azur team finished behind Clermont-Ferrand and ahead of Reims and Nantes.

The French Women’s Torball D1 Championship ended on Saturday, May 9 in Reims with a second-place finish for the Nice team. Sandrine, Kamélya and Clarisse represented Nice’s colors in the return matches against Clermont-Ferrand, Reims and Rezé. Djamila, a player who had been part of the French national team selections, joined the group for this end of season.

Around the players, the coaching staff consisted of coach Sébastien Filippini, Thibaud, referee coordinator, and Bruno, scorekeeper coordinator.

The trip began the day before in the city of Reims. After checking into a hotel organized with the help of Aurore, coordinator of this championship edition, the group discovered the city center, Place Drouet d’Erlon and the Italian market before dinner at a local brasserie. The day continued with a visit to Reims Cathedral followed by a team-building meal shared with the Reims and Rezé teams.

Three victories for Nice during the return phases

Saturday morning, the Nice players quickly entered the competition with a 12-8 victory against Rezé. The second match against Clermont-Ferrand then favored the Auvergne team, who won 5-3.

Against Reims, Nice got off to a good start before faltering in the second half of the match and ultimately losing 8-5. The reaction came a few hours later with a clear 11-4 victory against the Reims team.

The second confrontation against Clermont-Ferrand remained competitive until the end. Nice ultimately lost 8-6 despite a close contest. To finish the day, the Côte d’Azur team dominated Rezé again with a score of 12-4.

In the final standings of the French Women’s Torball D1 Championship, Clermont-Ferrand won the title ahead of Nice. Reims completed the podium while Nantes finished fourth.

The Nice team completed the competition with the best offense of the championship. Sandrine finished as the second-leading scorer of the return phases with 27 goals, behind Magali of Clermont-Ferrand and her 29 goals. Clarisse scored 20 goals during these return matches while Djamila added one goal.

After the awards ceremony, participants shared a meal in a friendly atmosphere before returning to Nice the next day with silver medals around their necks. The competition organizers also recognized the commitment of volunteers present throughout the day, particularly Thibaud and Claude for refereeing and Bruno at the scorekeeping table.
